CHARLOTTE, NC (January 21) -- Johnny Herrera and Guy Forbrook, regulars with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series in recent years, announced their plans for the 2002 season Monday.

Herrera, who raced for DOCC Motorsports and Lonny Parsons last season, will drive Billy Wilburn’s Mead-sponsored Maxim this year. Wilburn occasionally raced with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series before becoming NASCAR Winston Cup racer Rusty Wallace’s crew chief during the off-season. Herrera says the team will race in approximately half of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series events this season.

Forbrook, who owned cars racing with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series the last two years, hired Jac Haudenschild as his new driver and will run at least the first three months of the season with "the greatest show on dirt."

"We’ll be at all the big races," Herrera said. "We’re not geared up to run the whole season now. Billy and I were working on a deal before he became Rusty’s crew chief, but that fell through. It won’t be on the same scale as the deal we were working on originally, but we’re going to do it. We’ll run Don Ott motors and we’re negotiating with Goodyear on a tire deal. We’re going to race when we can and have fun doing it."

Forbrook, who had Rookies of the Year Greg Hodnett and Jeff Shepard race for him the last two years, hired "The Wild Child" in November. The two were teammates in 1998, working with car owner Jack Elden.

"We’re going to run Maxim cars, Goodyear tires and Gaerte engines and Wirtgen America will still be our sponsor," Forbrook said.

"We’re going to race in Florida, then to Houston and Arizona to do some testing for Goodyear.

"Jac and I have always had great success together. The first night he ever raced with me, he won. We were racing with Jack Elden at Manzanita and we won the season opener.

"We’re going to run all the races through May and stop and see how we’re doing before making a decision about the rest of the year."
