Stewart dominates Gumout event at Winner Speedway.
WINNER, SD (July 13) - Shane Stewart won his first race of the season in dominating style Saturday, dominating the World of Outlaws Gumout Series event at Winner Speedway.
Stewart set the Ronald Laney Huggins Cams Fast Time with a clocking of 16.717 seconds, won the First Heat Race, the Gaerte Engines Dash and led every lap in the "A" Feature.
The other big winner was the town of Winner. New promoters Scott Mann and Lou Fredrick purchased the race track only six weeks before Saturday's race. With the help of many fans the business, the Gumout Series was greeted with open arms. The townspeople ran a shuttle service to the track because there was limited parking and helped the teams throughout the weekend.
Stewart started on the front row with B&B Oval Tracks Products Dash winner Jeremy Campbell. Stewart took the lead and began to increase his advantage as the leaders entered lapped traffic.
Brodix/All Pro Rookie of the Year points leader Wayne Johnson cut into Stewart's lead in lapped traffic, however, and caught him during the 14th lap. The red flag fell when the back-straightaway lights went out as the leaders crossed the finish line the next time around. After a 10-minute delay, the race resumed and Stewart held off Johnson to win the eighth Gumout main event of his career.
Jason Sides finished in third place, ahead of Campbell, Chad Meyer, Craig Keel, Tyler Walker, Rich Bubak, Chuck Swenson and Brian Carlson.
Walker, the Gumout Series points leader, crossed the finish line third, but was penalized four positions for passing early on a restart.
The Gumout Series will run single-program events at Hartford Speedway in Harford, MI, July 26th and Fonda Speedway in Fonda, NY, July 28th. WoO
