Dollansky Keeps Streak Alive

BRANDON, SD (August 19)-The Gumout Racing Series North Midwest Tour could not have gone better for Craig Dollansky. Going into the series, Dollansky trailed Jeff Shepard by four points. When the checkered flag dropped at Huset's Speedway, Dollansky had gained four more victories and a 34-point lead over Shepard in the point standings.

"It's been a great week. We've had some bad luck along the way this year. Thank God, that some of that stuff is behind us now," Dollansky told the crowd from victory lane. "You have to get some breaks going your way when you are racing out here [Gumout Series]. Hopefully we can keep it going."

Paul McMahan and Kraig Kinser won the Weld Racing Dash and Weld Race Components Dash respectively. As the green flag dropped, Kinser dove low as McMahan chose the high groove. Going into turn three, Dollansky passed Kinser on the low side to take over the second position. Kinser fell to third, followed by Jeff Shepard and Ronald Laney.

On lap three, Dollansky had pulled alongside race leader McMahan at the flag stand. Going into turn one on the following lap, Dollansky again dove low to take the lead away from McMahan. Further back in the field, Brad Furr had moved up to challenge Laney for the fifth position. Furr took over the position on lap six, as the #4J of Shepard began to stumble. Shepard slipped back into the field rapidly allowing Furr and Peter Murphy to join the top five.

By lap ten the race leaders had entered heavy traffic. Furr got around the #11K of Kraig Kinser in turns three and four. Shepard, back up to speed, also got around the rookie putting Kinser into the fifth position. By this time, Dollansky commanded a straightaway lead on McMahan. Lap 20 saw a heated battle for the second position begin between McMahan and Shepard. Shepard continued to dive low, but McMahan's momentum around the top of the track, allowed him to hold onto the position.

Dollansky, by lap 25, led by ½ lap over McMahan, Shepard, Murphy and Furr. Lap 27 saw Furr regain the fourth position from Murphy. One lap later, Shepard pass McMahan coming out of turn two to take over the second position. After going 30 laps, green to checkered, Dollansky won his fourth Gumout Racing Series event in a row. Shepard finished second with McMahan, Furr and Murphy rounding out the top five.

This was the first non-stop feature event for the Gumout Racing Series. In fact, the Hank's Performance Products "B" Feature was the only sprint car event of the night to see the yellow flag.

Craig Dollansky earned his first Huggins Fast Time Award of the year with a time of 10.776. Randy Kinser passed four cars en route to a ninth place finish to earn his first KSE Hard Charger Award.

In a correction from the River Cities Speedway results, Bob Bennett should have been placed in 12th position. This correction made him the KSE Hard Charger for that specific event as he passed 11 cars throughout the 40-lap feature event.
