EAGLE, NE (August 14)-Following a strong fifth place finish at the 40th running of the Amoco Knoxville Nationals, Craig Dollansky traveled to Eagle Raceway to record another Gumout Racing Series victory. Dollansky's win was his fifth win of the season, tying competitor Jeff Shepard for the most wins thus far.

"This team has been strong all year long," Dollansky stated in victory lane. "When you have a Maxim car working as good as this one, and a Fischer engine, and a lot of good people that support this race team [Karavan and Polydome] that is what makes it all happen. The driver is part of it, but it takes a lot of other things."

Jeff Shepard was quickly dubbed as the "Fastest Man at Eagle" after he broke the eight-year-old track record set by Sammy Swindell. Jeff, however, was not fast enough to work his way around Dollansky in the 30-lap feature event, as he crossed the line in second position.

"Lapped traffic plays a big role whenever you get on a small track like this. When you try to pass someone and there is only one slick groove to be in, those guys kind of get diced around in front of you. I lost my momentum and could never get by them," Shepard explained.

Brad Furr won the night's Weld Racing Dash, lining him up on the front row alongside of Shane Stewart. As the green flag fell, Furr jumped out into the lead. Dollansky raced by Stewart on the high side to take over second position. Dollansky then passed Furr high in turn four to take over the lead on lap two.

Lap four saw the first caution of the night as third running Shane Stewart spun high in turn two. Stewart restarted on the tail of the 25-car field. Dollansky pulled out into a sizeable lead on the restart with Furr following. Coming out of turn two, Furr jumped the cushion to send him end over end. Jason Meyers in the Carter Racing #14M swerved to miss Furr's #2F causing Meyers to spin to a stop in the middle of the track. Meyers restarted on the tail of the event. After making extensive repairs, Furr returned to the racing surface to restart on the tail as well.

The lap five restart saw Dollansky jump out into the lead once again followed this time by Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Ronald Laney and Paul McMahan. McMahan drove around the top to take second position away from Laney on lap six. Just after crossing the line to begin lap seven, Stewart in the Holbrook Motorsports #9H spun again in turn two. Stewart was sent to the pit are for the remainder of the evening.

As the field once again restarted, McMahan dove to the bottom in all attempts to take the lead from Dollansky. Shepard, Peter Murphy, and Terry McCarl began a three-way battle for fourth position as the trio crossed the line side by side. Shepard came out on top to take over the fourth position. The following lap saw Shepard take third position away from Laney as the raced out of turn four. Lap 11 saw Shepard continue his charge to the front as he ducked low to take second away from an unsuspecting McMahan. Shepard then set his sights on race leader Dollansky.

Shepard slowly closed in on the leader until a yellow on lap 15 brought the #4J onto the Karavan/Polydome #7's tail. Bob Bennett had spun low in turn four, but restarted on the tail of the field. The restart saw both Dollansky and Shepard go high as McMahan went to the bottom. McMahan had nothing for them as he remained in third, but relinquished the position on the following lap when Laney passed him low in turn two.

Shepard continuously battled Dollansky for the lead, when at one point the two almost collided as the exited turn two. The first red of the night dropped on lap 20 when Billy Wilburn, Brad Furr, and Bill Robertson collided low in turn four. Wilburn and Robertson retired to the pit area for the evening, while Furr once again restarted on the tail.

With ten laps remaining, Dollansky jumped out into a good lead over Shepard. As the duo entered lapped traffic on lap 24, Dollansky continued to extend his lead. Shepard sliced through lapped cars with ease, but still did not have enough to catch Dollansky. Dollansky picked up his first Gumout Racing Series victory at Eagle Raceway. Shepard finished in second, with Laney running a season high third. Paul McMahan held onto fourth with Peter Murphy rounding out the top five.

Jeff Shepard earned the Huggins Fast Time Award with a new track record of 11.256. This record broke Sammy Swindell previous record of 11.264 which was set in June of 1992. Jimmy Carter was named KSE Hard Charger after he passed 13 cars on his way to an 11th place finish.

Randy Kinser flipped violently out of turn four during the Weld Racing Dash. While his crew tried to make all necessary repairs, they were unable to do so in time to start the feature event.

The Gumout Racing Series now travels to Grand Forks, North Dakota to compete at River Cities Speedway on August 16th.
