KINSER CROSSES ONE OFF A VERY SHORT LIST, SALDANA WINS TOO
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 21, 2010) -- River City Speedway held a distinction that was uncommon among dirt race tracks in the United States: Steve Kinser had never won there.
Kinser grabbed his third win of the season and 555th of his amazing World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series career when he won the Outlaws race at River City quarter-mile oval. Joey Saldana won the second race of the weekend and now leads Kinser in the championship race.
Much of Kinser's career has been spent on Goodyear tires. Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the rear wheel positions of the WoO sprint cars. The front wheel positions are open to competition among tiremakers, though most competitors choose Goodyear Eagles on the front wheel positions.
Jac Haundeschild finished second to Kinser, followed by Sammy Swindell, Saldana and Craig Dollansky. There were 38 entries for the event.
Kraig Kinser, the winner's son, posted the fastest lap during time trials. The lap was good for an average of 107.516 mph.
Saldana's win came after a furious race with Haudenschild over the final two laps. The cars touched wheels at one point, no small matter for the open-wheeled Outlaw racers. Haundenschild finished second, followed by Donny Schatz, Steve Kinser and Paul McMahan.
Mahan was fastest in qualifying with a lap averaging 96.188.
Saldana finished the night with 3,804 points. Steve Kinser is next with 3,748.
