Mopar's Steve Francis off to a great start in 2004

Center Line, Mich. - Team Mopar driver Steve Francis wrote Mopar into the late model racing history books at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park last week. The "Kentucky Colonel" won the first-ever World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series event on Feb. 3, sweeping his heat race and the dash event, and leading the feature event flag-to-flag to earn the win.

Francis drove his Stanton-built Mopar to a third-place finish in competition on Feb. 4, and the veteran finished fifth in the Winter Nationals WoO Late Model Florida appearance points.

Francis, who has driven the No. 15 machine into Victory Lane three times already this season, showed his hand early in the 2004 season, winning the Arizona "Early Thaw" event in January. With a complete 2004 WoO Late Model schedule expected to be released in the near future, Francis and company will have ample opportunity to utilize their equipment and Mopar powerplants.

Francis' comments on his team's initial performance follow:

"The Mopar engines have been excellent - we don't have anything to complain about. To win the first three of six series events, that's a real tribute to everyone involved with this Mopar team. Winning is definitely setting the tone for our season." Steve Francis, driver of the No. 15 Mopar WoO Late Model Series vehicle, on how the powerplants have assisted them in early season success.

"We've been fortunate to start near the front, and Mopar power has given us great opportunities to take advantage of that position. The engines have helped us to be very consistent and most definitely provide plenty of horsepower. They're very drivable, and especially good at the start of the race." Steve Francis on the supreme horsepower provided by his Mopar "A" Engine Aluminum Race Block (P5007581).

"Being able to win right out of the box is a real tribute to everyone involved with this Mopar/Valvoline/Rocket Chassis team. Starting my own team this year is pretty much like starting over, and being this good this early in the season says a lot for everyone involved." Steve Francis on the performance of his new team's effort.

Mopar is based in Center Line, Mich., and is the exclusive original equipment supplier of parts and accessories for Chrysler, Dodge and JeepR vehicles.
