Erin Crocker to Drive City Chevrolet Sprint Car in World of Outlaws Event
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 27, 2010) - Ray Evernham, who with Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon won three NASCAR Sprint Cup championships, is reuniting with owner Rick Hendrick ..... to have some fun at the World of Outlaws Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Evernham is fielding a World of Outlaws car for wife Erin Crocker Evernham, the only woman to ever win a World of Outlaws race. And Rick Hendrick's City Chevrolet will be featured on the side panel of the car, paying tribute to the roots of today's Hendrick Motorsports.
"When Ray called about putting City Chevrolet on Erin's sprint car, I thought it was a neat idea," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "This year is City's 75th anniversary in the Charlotte market, so running a race at one of our local tracks seemed like a lot of fun. I wish Erin the best of luck and hope she can take City Chevrolet to Victory Lane at The Dirt Track."
Evernham also was excited about running the City Chevrolet car.
"It's a great way to honor City Chevrolet on its 75th anniversary," said Evernham, CEO of Ray Evernham Enterprises. "Rick and I have remained close friends over the years, and I'm excited to go racing with him again, even if it is to just get dirty and have some fun. In our hearts, we're all grassroots racers and it's exciting to go racing on a dirt track on Friday night. Erin has a great car, and we're proud to have City Chevrolet on the side panel. We hope to see that car in victory lane."
Erin Crocker Evernham, who will drive a winged, nearly 900-horsepower, open-wheel sprint car in the event, is optimistic about the race.
"We've got a great car and Guy Forbrook, our crew chief, and the team at the shop have been working hard on it," said Evernham. "We've been running some sprint car races lately, so I feel like we've got the seat time and the equipment to have a good night. But more importantly, we'll have a lot of fun and put on a great show for the fans."
