In Elite Company: Elite Racing Celebrates a season of achievements

After all the dust of nearly 70 World of Outlaws Sprint Car races settled, Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team emerged as champions. The season could not have had a better "fairy tale" ending with Meyers winning the two last races of the season with over 40 sponsors, supporters and family members there to celebrate with him. On last Sunday night, Meyers commemorated his year of achievements at the World of Outlaws Banquet at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, North Carolina.

Meyers and his team were showered with awards and accolades on the special evening. Not only did Elite Racing take home the $150,000 point fund for the championship, but they also were given a few other prizes. The first item Meyers was awarded with was 10 drums of VP Racing Fuel.

"Thank you for all the support from VP racing fuels," Meyers commented after stepping on the awards stage for the first time. "I know Charlie Garrett really appreciates us putting quality racing fuel in our cars and this will definitely give us a good start going into the 2011 season."

Meyers also placed second in the LaCross Boots Extreme Tough Challenge, which was worth $4,000 and the Elite Racing crew will look sharp as they will all receive a pair of LaCross Boots.

The final time Meyers took the stage, he was honored as champion and awarded the nearly 50 pound bronze champions trophy. Both team Co-Owner Chris Luck and Meyers took their turn on stage, sharing words of gratitude for all those who helped them on their journey to become champions.

Words of a Championship Owner

"We ground a cam for Rick Ferkel in 1974 when I was still in high school and that was the first time I ever saw a winged outlaw sprint car," reminisced Luck. "My life was changed forever from that day forward. I just want everyone in this room to know that Guy Stockbridge and myself are truly honored to win this championship. Steve (Kinser), Donny (Schatz), and Joey (Saldana), you guys are tough and great to compete against... This has truly been a dream come true for me. Jason you have arrived. You are a champion. "

The Champion Speaks

"It finally set in today, and this is incredible," said Meyers said when he took the microphone. "We talked about family a lot with this team and we certainly have a great one. This team is a family. It has always been a joke about how many names are on our car and now the tables of supporters we have here at the banquet. There has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears that have gone into building this team to help it get to where it is today. There are three guys that go up and down the road every day, but there are countless people behind the scenes making this happen. Thank you to each and every one of you and every person that is in this room here tonight and makes it possible for us to do what do love to do."

A thank you to the fellow owners

"Chris Luck, you have taken us to new heights through you leadership, friendship, and dedication to taking the necessary steps towards winning championships. I am truly grateful to be your partner and most of all, your friend."

"Guy (Stockbridge), you took a chance on me. I tried for years and years for someone to take a chance. We talked about this last night, but that night Guy said that he races sprint cars so that his family can go and watch. This is truly a family sport. He took a chance on me and has become one of my best friends. I can call on you any time and you will be there for me."

The turning point of 2010

"I have been asked lately, what is the turning point, what has been the difference this year? I could not really say and one item came to mind today. A lot of people in this room know my wife. I think I have 75% of my fan base because of her and the genuine kindness and love that she shows everyone who approaches her. We were sitting down to dinner about three months ago and I was complaining about the night I had at the track the evening before. How are we going to do this? We are so close to this championship and I felt we were missing something. She looked me in the eyes and said you might have to realize you may never win it. It took me a second to realize what she meant by that. What she was trying to tell me was that God has a plan and all you can do is go out there and do the best you can everyday. She is the reason why I am here today and the reason I got to live my dream. We have built this race team and a family together. She is an amazing woman and I have to thank her."

After the pageantry of the banquet, the entire Elite Racing team celebrated their accomplishments at the Lava Bistro in Charlotte with friends, family, and sponsors. While everyone celebrated for an evening, the true work now starts for everyone. Championships are rare and winning them back-to-back is even more so. The 2011 season will kick off in less than 90 days at the 40th Annual Florida Dirtcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in February and Elite Racing will be looking to join the ranks of only three other drivers (Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, and Donny Schatz) in World of Outlaws history to win consecutive titles.
