MECHANICSBURG, PA - Donny Schatz has a new fondness for Williams Grove Speedway after years of struggling at the tough Central Pennsylvania track. Since Crew Chief Kenny Woodruff joined the ParkerStores team, the #15 sprinter has been awesome at the legendary half-mile. On Thursday night, "The Minot Missile" made it two wins in row at "The Grove" as he won the Pennzoil World of Outlaws "Wirtgen Shootout" preliminary feature event.
"I am here because of the guy working on this car, Kenny Woodruff," stated Schatz after winning for the second time this season in the tough WoO tour. "This team is very fortunate to have Kenny and he has been a big difference."
Schatz, who won last fall's Williams Grove National Open, qualified third in the field of 46 cars and won the Third O'Reilly Heat Race. His runner-up finish in the Channellock Dash put the #15 ParkerStores J&J on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap feature race. After missing a first lap melee, which took out a number of drivers including polesitter, Mark Kinser, Schatz took the lead from Danny Lasoski on the second lap and led the final 24 laps to claim the victory.
"This feels real awesome," stated Schatz. "I love this place. Friday's show is going to be tough and to be locked in really will be an advantage. I can't thank all of my crew and the people that support this race team enough. ParkerStores, Featherlite, Blue Beacon and with great product sponsors like J&J and Goodyear we have a great team."
The victory locks Schatz into tonight's Channellock Dash, which will set the first ten starting positions for the 35-lap Wirtgen Shootout "A" Feature. The program will air live on TNN: The National Network beginning at 9 PM (ET).
