WOO POINT LEADER SCHATZ LEADS OUTLAWS TO LAWRENCEBURG
FARGO, ND (July 5) -- Donny Schatz returns to action on Friday night as the 2006 World of Outlaws points leader and will be joined by the rest of the MEAN 15 at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN for the City of Lawrenceburg Sprint Nationals. The WoO veteran, who calls Fargo, ND home, will be driving his familiar No. 15 ParkerStore J&J with Shaver power chasing his eighth "A" Feature win of the season and first career win at the unique racetrack.
"Lawrenceburg definitely is a place that takes some getting used to, but I feel like we got the team in place to put us in a good position on Friday night," said Schatz, who finished third at the track in 2004. "We've been there three times and been either really good or really bad. It's a racy place with no walls so you've got to be careful not to drive over the edge. Guys get going good on the bottom, middle and top. We're looking forward to it and hoping this is one of those times where we're really good."
Friday's race at Lawrenceburg will mark the second consecutive race on a smaller track following last Monday's race at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, SD. In that event, Schatz bounced back from a tough qualifying run, which put him 17th out of 29 cars in the field. He charged from 17th to finish sixth in the 30-lap feature. The result continued his string of consecutive finishes inside the top seven that began on May 20 at Sharon. During that 15-race stretch, Schatz has four wins, including a hometown sweep of two races at Red River Valley Speedway, and 12 finishes inside the top three.
The key to the early season success has been Schatz's ability to qualify strong. The ParkerStore team, made up of Ricky Warner, Shane Bowers and James Bowers, has given Schatz a fast racecar on most nights putting Schatz in great position for a chance to compete for the win. Schatz will head to Lawrenceburg with the same plan he's had all season.
"Our goal to start the night is be the fastest qualifier," said Schatz, who has earned four fast time awards and qualified in the top ten 24 times in 30 races in 2006. "If you can make the best lap, it's a pretty good indication that you've got your car where you need it. I think this is the best group of guys that I've had as unit and they are all committed to doing whatever it takes for us to be the best each night."
Following Friday's race the team will join the rest of the World of Outlaws for Saturday's race at I-55 Raceway just south of St. Louis. In their first visit to I-55 this season on April 1, Schatz and the ParkerStore team dominated the action leading all 40 laps to claim the feature win.
SCHATZ AT LAWRENCEBURG
Donny Schatz will be making his third appearance at Lawrenceburg Speedway, a semi-banked, quarter-mile oval, located in Southeast Indiana, near Cincinnati, Ohio.
