Craig Dollansky Wins in New Zealand
Concord, NC--Dec. 4, 2006 -- Craig Dollansky had plenty of momentum as the 2006 World of Outlaws Sprint Series season wrapped up. He was a career-best second in the championship point standings on the strength of six A-Feature wins as well as two preliminary feature wins, along with 33 Top-Five finishes.
Looking to keep that momentum heading into the 2007 World of Outlaws season, Dollansky recently departed for New Zealand where he is set to compete in four races during the month of December as part of the Springs National Sprint Car Championship Series.
He took to the track for the first time this past weekend driving for Salter Motorsports, at Springs Speedway near Auckland, New Zealand. On the ¼-mile bullring, he lined up fourth for the first heat race and came home in the third spot. In the second heat race he competed in, the native of Elk River, Minnesota charged from the fifth starting spot to take the win.
As is accustomed in New Zealand, points accumulated from time trials and heat races are used to determine the starting line-up for the main event. Dollansky, who gained the most points on the night, was in line to draw for the inversion. He drew a two, and thus inverted the first two rows for the feature, lining himself up in the fourth spot, for the 20-lapper.
Dollansky aboard the Salter Cartage #7USA wasted little time when the green flag flew, charging to the lead on the opening lap. He went on to lead all 20 laps to pick up the win over his teammate Kerry Jones as well as Allan Wakeling, who have combined for 16 sprint car titles in New Zealand.
The next race for Dollansky will be the $20,000 to-win International Sprint Car Classic on December 9, an event that fellow World of Outlaws driver Joey Saldana will also compete in.
The 2007 World of Outlaws Sprint Series season opener is set for February 9 at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida.
