FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 14, 2001) - Craig Dollansky established himself as a star in sprint car racing when he captured the 2000 World of Outlaws Gumout Series championship. The 2001 season for the Elk River, Minn. driver has been filled with successes that he hopes will continue Thursday and Friday, March 29-30 in the Southern Bleacher Classic Pennzoil World of Outlaws program at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
Dollansky collected $50,000 for winning last season's Gumout Series title, the first year for the support division of the World of Outlaws. Dollansky won eight Gumout features in his Karavan-Polydome Maxim sprint car and led 290 feature laps to win a tight point battle over Paul McMahan and Jeff Shepard.
Dollansky's goal for 2001 is to compete on the entire Pennzoil World of Outlaws tour, tackling sprint car legends such as Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Mark Kinser and Stevie Smith night after night at dirt tracks across America. Dollansky is currently third in the Pennzoil WoO point standings that includes his second career series victory in the O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Texas' Devil's Bowl Speedway.
"Our team is only a couple of years old and we used the Gumout Series last year to gain more experience," said Dollansky. "Last season helped us build our program stronger for this year with motors and chassis. We weren't prepared to travel the entire Pennzoil World of Outlaws circuit last year, we are now. We used the winter to get ready for all circumstances we could encounter, the team worked too hard not to be prepared for this year."
Dollansky will be aiming for the $20,000 top prize in the Southern Bleacher Classic. Complete racing programs including time trials, heat races, qualifying features and an "A" feature will be presented each night. Tickets are available at the speedway ticket office, by calling (817) 215-8500, online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com or at Ticketmaster locations.
