2007 Race Recaps:
June 22: Jason Meyers earned his first career win at Dodge City Raceway Park.
Meyers took the lead on the opening lap as he won a drag race with the polesitter Donny Schatz, down the front straightaway. The caution flag flew on the third lap and that was the only stoppage in the event, which was completed in just over 10-and-a-half minutes on a lightning fast race track.
The pair entered lapped traffic on the ninth lap with Schatz making a run off the second turn to nearly take the lead. He continued to battle Meyers lap after lap looking both high and low, looking for an opening. That opening came on the 13th circuit as Schatz charged to the high side of the second turn to take the lead from Meyers.
With the Top-four all bunched together, Meyers continued to pressure Schatz. On the 16th lap Schatz got a little high and out of the groove coming off the second turn in traffic, giving Meyers the opening he needed to shoot back to the lead down the back straightaway.
With four laps to go, the pair entered heavy traffic yet again, with Schatz making a couple late bids for the win. Meyers held his line in the middle groove to secure the $10,000 win.
Craig Dollansky finished third, with Jason Solwold fourth and Paul McMahan fifth.
June 23: Daryn Pittman turned in a dominating performance en route to the win.
The native of Owasso, Oklahoma used a strong start on the high side of the race track to take the lead heading into the first turn with Joey Saldana in-toe. Early in the race he built some sizeable advantages that were negated by the caution flag right as he was about to enter heavy lapped traffic. On each restart Pittman would quickly pull away and ended up winning by over two seconds. After being bound up in lapped traffic for most of the race the night before, Pittman was the benefactor of a couple of cautions that opened up the track for him in the finale of the Boot Hill Showdown.
After winning the second heat from the outside of the front row, Pittman lined up second for the Crane Cams Dash. He won that event to earn the pole position for the A-Feature. At the end of the night, his A-Feature win was the only event that saw a winner come from a non-outside front row starting spot.
Saldana started the A-Feature on the pole after winning the Crane Cams Dash. He stuck with Pittman for a number of laps after the opening green flag and would eventually finish second.
Terry McCarl turned in another strong run at Dodge City finishing third. He gained three spots on the opening lap of the race after a strong start, and ran third the rest of the way.
Tim Shaffer lined up 10th for the A-Feature and methodically worked his way to the front, as he finished fourth. He gained two spots on the opening lap of the race and two more on the second lap, as he got around Donny Schatz and Danny Lasoski. On the fourth lap he moved around Steve Kinser for the fifth spot. He contended with Jason Solwold for the next several laps before moving into fourth. For the last half of the race, the native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania battled with McCarl for the third spot.
