Lasoski hopes to wrap up season with big victories at big tracks; two nights of racing at the Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway start it off.
CONCORD, NC (October 10, 2002) -- It is a big weekend for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws and Danny "The Dude" Lasoski. Big for several reasons, the greatest being that it's the last time the Outlaws will run in conjunction with a major NASCAR event and Lasoski's team owner, Tony Stewart, will be able to see his team first hand. It is big for Lasoski, because even though his championship hopes are nearly gone, he hopes to win most of the remaining races, and none would be bigger for the #20 J.D. Byrider / Tony Stewart Motorsports team than the Outlaws Showdown at the Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"This is a big race for us," said Lasoski, "it may be the biggest race we have remaining this year with the exception of the season finale at Las Vegas. It is big to run in conjunction with these Winston Cup events, because it opens us up to an audience that may be seeing us run for the first time. And to run good here at Lowe's is a big thing for us. We didn't run all that well here in the spring, and we would like to come out and set the world on fire this weekend."
Lasoski took to the Lowe's track in the spring, with the help of Stewart, to finish seventh on Friday night and ninth in Saturday's "A" main. The track was really rough with lots of grooves, causing trouble for many of the top Outlaw competitors.
"Lowe's is real tough, or at least it was in the spring. It's a shame, because they just need to get better dirt to make this the very best facility we run at. This is just a tough place to race.
"We just love to race here. This is the heart of stock car racing country, so these guys don't know a lot of good dirt sprint car racing down here. We come in here and give them a shot in the butt and show them what some of the best racing is. Plus, there are so many past sprint car drivers down here trying to make it in stock car racing, we get to see some old friends. It is just a big market for us and a big weekend to build this World of Outlaws sport."
This past weekend, "The Dude" raced at Talladega Short Track with the Outlaws and came home sixth in the "A" main.
Lasoski and former WoO Champion Dave Blaney will be guests on Friday's "Trackside" program on Speed Channel. The show, hosted by Mike Joy and co-hosted by Darrell Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds, will be taped between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The show will be telecast between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. that same night.
