Terre Haute, IN (July 8)-Eric Stonesifer, crewmember on the #4J sprinter driven by Jeff Shepard, was injured Friday, June 30th at the Terre Haute Action Track when he was accidentally run-over in the pit area.
Stonesifer, 21, was riding on the nerf bar of Shepard's machine when the incident occurred. While buttoning the hood on to the car, Stonesifer's right leg was sucked under the machine's left rear tire. After pushing Stonesifer onto the ground, the tire continued to roll over his entire body.
"This was really just a freak accident," Stonesifer explained. "It wasn't anyone's fault at all."
Stonesifer was immediately taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fracutured vertebrae in his lower back. Stonesifer also suffered a puncture wound to his lower left leg.
Stonesifer remained in the hospital until Monday afternoon when he was fitted for a full back brace. The brace has to be worn at all times for approximately three to four months. He is now residing at home in York Springs, Pennsylvania to recuperate from his injuries.
Stonesifer will more than likely not return to the Double L Motorsports Team this season, but does plan on returning for the 2001 racing season.
