Dollansky consistency continues ascent in World of Outlaws Sprint Series
Elk River (March 29, 2004) -- Craig Dollansky, driver of the # 7 VMAC sprinter in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series, continues to climb the point standings with consistency and impressive finishes. The Karavan Dollansky team completed the latest weekend of action with a pair of top seven feature runs.
The March 26th event at the Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, Louisiana was a test for a new track to the Karavan Dollansky squad. The track lost speed quickly as qualifying went by, and Dollansky, toward the middle of time trial qualifications, clocked a lap of 11.832, good for 11th. A Heat 2 finish of 4th and a Dash 2 finish of 5th pegged the VMAC 7 on the outside of the 5th row in the A Main Feature (the 10th starting position). After initial success at passing a handful of cars, Dollansky came together with the 11K of Kraig Kinser. Thinking he had a flat right rear, Dollansky dropped to the 12th position. During a yellow flag caution, the tire was cleared and the Garrett powered sprinter made a charge to the front and finished a respectable 7th.
The SLS Promotions "Texas Shootout" at Houston Raceway Park was an equally successful event the very next night. Dollansky came out of the gate timing in at 13.884, good for 10th. A "greasy" track left Dollansky and the team looking to decipher a correct setup for the rest of the night's event. A Heat 3 finish of 3rd and a Dash 1 finish of 5th placed the VMAC 7 on the inside of Row 5 (9th) for the A Main. The start of the feature left Dollansky crossed up, effectively dropping the VMAC 7 out of the top ten on the track. Dollansky battled back to a 6th place finish and climbed to a 6th place standing in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series standings at 768 points.
After an unfortunate opening weekend at Manzanita Speedway in 2004, the Karavan Dollansky team has established itself as a force in the 2004 championship run. The momentum from six top ten finishes in a row will carry into this weekend's battle at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on April 3rd.
