Countdown to the World of Outlaws Return to Las Vegas: 8 Days
Concord, NC-- February 18, 2009--The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Thursday, February 26. The series has competed at the half-mile in 11 different seasons dating back to 1996. For 11 consecutive days the events from each of those years will be highlighted in chronological order, continuing today with the series five races at the half-mile in 1999.
Mark Kinser extended his winning streak to five at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway by winning the preliminary feature on March 5 over Danny Lasoski. Steve Kinser, the 20-time series champion was fourth, with Donny Schatz the three-time and defending titlist sixth. Sammy Swindell, the three-time series champion was ninth. Other current World of Outlaws drivers that competed in the race included: Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers, Craig Dollansky and also Kasey Kahne who now owns the cars that Saldana and Dollansky drive.
Danny Lasoski picked up his first win at Las Vegas the following night, leading all 30 laps. Kinser was second, with Swindell fourth and Schatz fifth. Also in action were Dollansky, Saldana, Meyers and Kahne.
The World of Outlaws again wrapped up their season in 1999 at Las Vegas, with a three-night event. The first preliminary feature went to Jeff Swindell over Schatz and Sammy Swindell. Steve Kinser was ninth with Saldana 11th. Also in action were Lasoski, Dollansky, Meyers and Kahne.
Sammy Swindell led all 20 laps the following night to claim the second preliminary feature over Saldana, with Lasoski sixth, Schatz seventh and Kinser eighth. Also in action were Meyers, Dollansky and Kahne.
Donny Schatz wrapped up the 1999 season by leading all 30 laps to take home the $18,000 top prize for his first career win at Las Vegas and the fourth of his young World of Outlaws career the following night. Swindell was fifth, with Kahne seventh and Kinser ninth. Also in action were Dollansky, Saldana, Lasoski and Meyers.
