Hillier Passes Eight Cars in Eldora Feature
ROSSBURG, OH (June 2) -- Chad Hillier drove the #5C DIRT Inc. Maxim past eight cars in Saturday's World of Outlaws "A" Feature at Eldora Speedway.
Finishing 17th in the main event was a marked improvement over Hillier's last performance at "The World's Fastest Half-Mile" -- a 10th-place run in the "B" Feature on April 13th.
"Unfortunately, we didn't qualify very well again," Hillier said. "We need to figure out why we're struggling in qualifying. We had to use our second provisional, so we don't have any more of those until July 1st. We got going better in the feature, but we're still not where we need to be. We just need to qualify better so we can start closer to the front."
Hillier's 13.893-second lap is 29th-quick in the 31-car field. He finished eighth in the Second Heat Race and 10th in the "B" Feature, then used his second provisional of the season to start 25th in the 30-lap main event.
The Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year candidate passed Jac Haudenschild, Jason Martin and Brooke Tatnell during the sixth, seventh and eighth laps. He got by fellow rookie Sam Hafertepe Jr. for 20th place with 10 laps remaining, and moved forward as mechanical problems forced Joey Saldana, Brian Paulus and Jeremy Campbell out of the race.
Hillier and DIRT Inc. will be back in action Tuesday at Kokomo Speedway, a semi-banked, ¼-mile oval in Kokomo, IN, and Saturday in the Eagle Nationals at Eagle Raceway, a high-banked, 1/3-mile oval in Eagle, NE.
"We're looking forward to going to Kokomo," Hillier said. "It's a good, little track. I raced with the Outlaws there last year and had a pretty decent run."
Hillier was the 22nd-fastest qualifier in the 47-car field and finished 23rd in the "A" Feature at Kokomo on September 24, 2006.
"Eagle is a great place to race," Hillier said. "It's always good and racy."
