WEC Sao Paulo Hour One recap

The finale round of the 2014 season is underway.

The No. 20 Porsche 919 leads from pole position with Mark Webber behind the wheel, one hour into the season finale at Interlagos. There have been no safety car periods thus far, but the threat of rain (as expected here) persists.

The No. 2 Audi got off to a very slow start and was bounced around as cars swarmed around it, but Treluyer quickly fought to rejain lost ground.

Toyota vs. Porsche

The No. 8 Toyota splits the Porsche duo, but Sebastien Buemi was forced to fight hard to maintain such a gap. He and Marc Lieb were locked in an epic duel for most of the early going (before pit stops) with the Toyota so far holding off the assault launched by the No. 14. As it stands, the No. 8 is slowly cutting into the Porsche's lead margin, just eight seconds adrift of Webber now.

Early issues for SMP and Lotus

The No. 37 SMP Oreca has suffered two right front tire punctures, hindering the team's efforts to claim the LMP2 championship over G-Drive. The CLM Lotus lost over ten laps in the garage, suffering a gearbox issues.

Other class leaders

G-Drive Racing holds a comfortable command over the LMP2 field, despite the KCMG entry lurking just under two seconds back. GTE is Aston Martin's playground right now as the AMRs battle amongst themselves for the top spots in both Pro and Am classes, currently held by the No. 99 and No. 95.

BREAKING: Just past the one hour mark, G-Drive Racing ... LMP2 race and championship leader has crashed, prompting a full-course yellow! Story coming shortly...
