Toyota tops rain shortened race in Silverstone

Toyota maintained a lead over the field to secure a big one-two win in Silverstone.

Heavy rain has forced the first race of the FIA WEC season to be cut short by 25 minutes, handing dominant team Toyota a 1-2 finish ahead of the #20 Porsche.

Both Audi entries suffered single car, on track accidents that put them behind, not allowing them to challenge for the podium.

The margin of victory was a full lap between the Toyotas with the Porsche another lap back, 2 behind the leader.

The small LMP2 field saw the G-Drive Racing team running their Morgan-Nissan take the win by a full lap over the KCMG team. The other two entries, fielded by SMP Racing ran into trouble throughout the race.

In LMGTE Pro, the factory backed Porsche Team Manthey squad took both the win and secnod, running as two of four of the class cars to finish on the same lap.

In the LMGTE Am category, the Aston Martin Racing team swept the top two spots on the rostrum with the AF Corse F458 taking third.

The second safety car was called in the final hour for the heavy downpour, which eventually turned into a red flag at the 26 minute remaining mark as the rain continued.
