Tincknell expands Jota role for Spa WEC round

The Nissan factory driver fills the void left by Nick Yelloly, who was originally announced to race with the team throughout the season.

Filipe Albuquerque, who races for the team in the full European Le Mans Series this year, will be on Audi duty at Spa and Le Mans, as he races the #9 Audi R18 e-tron quattro with Marco Bonanomi and Rene Rast at both events.

Tincknell joins Jota regular Simon Dolan and GP2 race winner Mitch Evans in the Gibson 015S-Nissan for Spa, where he starred last year as he played a crucial role in garnering second place for the team in the race.

The 23-year-old Brit also set a time over the weekend which beat the best effort of his then-teammate Marc Gene, with whom he will be reunited at Nissan.

“I’m delighted to be called up for Spa and obviously have good memories, last year finishing second in my first race at World Championship level,” said Tincknell.

“I also believe the new Gibson update will suit Spa very well. Simon drove really well there last year considering it was only a few weeks after his massive Silverstone shunt.

"There is no doubt that Mitch will be fast so we go to Belgium with a very strong package. JOTA has worked very hard over the winter and the guys were absolutely supreme in the pit-stops at Silverstone.”

Tincknell is currently testing the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO at NCM Motorsports Park in Kentucky, where he and teammates Gene, Max Chilton, Michael Krumm and Alex Buncombe have already driven the car this week.

Jann Mardenborough meanwhile is expected to get his first track time with the radical front-wheel drive machine since his accident at the Nurburgring last month on Friday.
