Strakka Racing’s Nick Leventis, Danny Watts and Jonny Kane will drive the team’s Honda Performance Development ARX-03a at racing speed in Europe for the first time later this month, when they test at the MotorLand Aragón Circuit in Spain.

The two-day test will take place on 23-24 April, ahead of Round 2 of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (5 May).

The Silverstone-based squad gave its 3.4-litre normally aspirated V8 engined P1 prototype a trouble-free top 10 finish on its debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring, scoring WEC points for finishing 4th in LMP1 and 2nd in the Privateers’ category. Previously to that, the car had only had a brief pre-season systems check at a cold Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk.

The main purpose of the MotorLand Aragón Circuit outing is to test tyres with Michelin, ahead of Spa-Francorchamps and the Le Mans 24 Hours (16-17 June).

Nick Leventis: “We’ve only raced the HPD ARX-03a at Sebring, which has a track surface unlike anywhere else on the WEC calendar. We need to get some more tyre data before the European rounds of the series, so this tyre test with Michelin in Aragón will be very important – both for Spa and for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

“We gathered a lot of information about the car at Sebring but we are still in the early stages of the programme, so testing in Aragón will be a great opportunity to build on an already solid foundation, gain some valuable mileage and further enhance our understanding of the package performance-wise in preparation for the forthcoming European rounds of the WEC."
