Berlin/Spa-Francorchamps (rol/ot) The podium narrow missed, but optimism for the season highlight in Le Mans: The Berlin sports car pilot Stefan Mücke missed the aimed for podium placing in the GTE Pro class on Saturday evening (4th of May) at the second season event of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).
The Aston Martin works driver, who shared the cockpit of the Vantage GTE with his British team colleagues Darren Turner and Peter Dumbreck, finished fourth on the Ardennes course at the six hour race. Winner in this class have been the Italian Gianmaria Bruni and Giancarlo Fisichella in the Ferrari F458 Italia."We were able to go with the speed of the leading cars starting from position four. So we could have finished better, but at a pit stop after a Safety Car phase we lost a half lap to the combatants.
Furthermore we got a Stop-and-go penalty", the 31 year old explained, who won the WEC season opening in the middle of April in Silverstone together with Turner and the Brazilian Bruno Senna in the Vantage GTE. "The car didn’t have any problems this time as well, which gives us optimism for the next season event with the 24 hour race of Le Mans."
Before the Berlin will be on start in France on the 22nd/23 rd of June, he will be behind the wheel of a GT3 race car of Aston Martin next weekend (11th/12th of May) at the season opening of the Asian GT Championship in Japan.
He will share the cockpit of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with team principal Frank Yu on the race track in Motegi for the Team Craft Racing AMR from Hongkong. They have been third together at the 24 hours of Dubai at the beginning of January.
On Whitsunday (19th/20th May), the Berlin will be on track at the 24 hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 V12. "I am really looking forward to my premiere in Motegi as well as to the race on the Nordschleife", Stefan Mücke said.
