This weekend in England Loïc Duval will kick off his 2014 season in the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship). He reckons that the team is very well prepared for this new challenge and that goes for his new car, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, as well. “In terms of kilometers it’s difficult to put a figure on the distance we’ve covered up to now,” he says. “But we’ve done a lot of running. Overall we haven’t met with too many technical glitches, which is very positive in view of the coming season, above all taking into account the new regulations.”
After two encouraging years the FIA WEC is continuing its spectacular progression and 2014 will be a major step in its development. The new LM P1 regulations will highlight renewable technology, which will transform the FIA WEC and the Le Mans 24 Hours into the most relevant competitions in today’s world of motor sport. In 2014 Porsche will also be making its comeback in LM P1 to take on Audi and Toyota. They all have the same double objective: win the Le Mans 24 Hours and be crowned champions at the end of the season.
In 2014 the FIA WEC will travel to four continents and the championship will be run over eight races. Thus, the Silverstone 6 Hours this weekend will be the first real test. Loïc will share the wheel of his R18 e-tron quattro with endurance legend Tom Kristensen and new co-driver Lucas di Grassi who replaces the retired Allan McNish. The pressure? It will obviously be present but Duval feel pretty good. “We know that we’ll be up against tough opposition. We’ve done a huge amount of work to maintain the level of competitiveness necessary to stay on top. Almost all the Audi Sport drivers this year have already won races or have finished in the top three. We’re going to continue working to keep up our winning ways as it’s a sensation that Audi’s very fond of!”
