Lieb, Hartley on tap for Porsche LMP1 team

The Porsche LMP1 team is taking shape, but who will fill the last two seats?

Porsche is looking at finalizing its driver roster for the 2014 FIA WEC season, with Marc Lieb and Brendon Hartley being looked at by the German manufacturer to join its confirmed lineup.

Lieb has been working with Porsche’s GT program for some time now, and the young, 23-year-old Hartley will take part in testing, the team confirmed today.

The team’s current lineup, with three drivers per car, will see Mark Webber, Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Timo Bernhard, along with two more drivers take the wheel for Porsche’s return to prototype racing.

“Both the development of the LMP1 racing car as well as the creation of the racing team are progressing, but they also show that we are still faced with enormous challenges,” Wolfgang Hatz, of R&D at Porsche AG said.

“In 2014, our first year in the championship, our common target is to operate on a similar level as our highly experienced competitors.”

The team released images of its first test of the Porsche LMP1 car last month, but will be doing testing in Sebring in December, and Bahrain next year.
