Kubica to test ByKolles LMP1 in Bahrain

Ex-Formula 1 star Robert Kubica will make his first foray into prototype racing when he tests ByKolles' CLM P1/01-AER in Sunday's FIA WEC rookie test in Bahrain.

The Austrian-built prototype will be the most powerful car Kubica has driven since the end of his grand prix racing career, the Pole having largely concentrated on rallying in the interim.

However, Kubica has made a tentative comeback to circuit racing this year, with appearances in the 12 Hours of Mugello, the Spa round of the Renault Sport Trophy series and, more recently, the 6 Hours of Vallelunga.

Kubica will fly out to Bahrain this evening in time to take part in the test on Sunday, and will therefore not attend the Bahrain race.

It remains to be seen whether the test could lead to a full-time role with the ByKolles squad, which currently runs Oli Webb, Simon Trummer and Pierre Kaffer in its regular line-up, in 2017.

Sometime IndyCar and AutoGP driver Francesco Dracone will also test the CLM P1/01.
