Ferrari and AF Corse win the GT in Bahrain

Ferrari wins the GT constructors’ championship, AF Corse takes GTE Pro Team title. A stratospheric outcome to the Bahrain 6 Hours, the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

With two races in hand, the team has taken the titles in the most important international championship for GT and Prototype cars, aimed at reviving the spectacle of the great marques, absent for some time.

Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander, the latter for this race only standing in for usual team-mate Gianmaria Bruni, beat the rest of the GTE Pro field, taking their Ferrari to a fourth consecutive win: this great run began with the Le Mans 24 Hours, continuing in Silverstone, Interlagos and now Bahrain.

Starting from third on the grid, the two drivers and their No 51 Ferrari moved into a solid lead in the second hour, maintaining it from then on.

No one could match their pace and their rivals were given no chance, as could be seen from the fact the car took the chequered flag a lap ahead of the second placed Aston Martin No 97.

The other Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 in the FIA WEC championship, the No 71 car driven by Andrea Bertolini and Olivier Beretta, finished fourth in GTE Pro.

There was further justifiable cause for pride in the GTE Am category. Robert Kauffman, Rui Aguas and Brian Vickers took their No 61 AF Waltrip 458 Italia GT2 car to the second step on the podium.

At times, the trio even led the race, showing they had a very strong pace, as already seen from the fact that Aguas had taken pole position.

In the Team GTE AM classification, AF Waltrip is now third on 96 points, 32 points off the leaders, with 50 still up for grabs in the final two WEC races.
