Evans has had offers to race in WEC in 2016, 2017

The New Zealander, who is set to drive for Campos in GP2 for 2016 and raced for SMP this past weekend in ELMS, said that the offers were not from LMP1 factory teams Audi, Porsche or Toyota.

This is despite the fact he completed a run for Porsche in the rookie test towards the end of the 2015 season.

Evans then told Motorsport.com: “I did a few races last year at Le Mans and some WEC races. I want to be back in the WEC, it’s a great championship and sportscars have really taken off.

"[LMP1] where I’d like to be in the future and I did a test with Porsche last year, which was great. It went super well.

“I’ve been keeping in contact with them and hopefully in the near future we can continue to work with them and see. It would be a dream."

Hopeful of more ELMS outings

The deal that saw Evans race for SMP Racing only came about two weeks ago, but the Kiwi, who would end up finishing fifth at Silverstone, insisted he has not struggled to adapt.

Evans said: “To be honest, this was quite last minute. We only decided to do this a couple of weeks ago.

"It’s pretty straightforward to be honest, as drivers we should be able to adapt to different categories.

"This car [SMP's BR01] is very well made and it gives us a lot of confidence.”

Both Evans and his ELMS squadmates Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael will contest the full GP2 campaign this season - and the Kiwi is hoping the ELMS experience will be of use in that series.

Evans said: “Hopefully it helps us out but it’s completely different to be honest.

"Hopefully we can do some more races later in the season and fight for podiums and wins.”
