Before F1, a young Schumacher took on Le Mans
24 Hours of Le Mans organisers, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest give support to the injured Schumacher.
On the 24 Hours of Le Mans website, the ACO has expressed its well-wishes to Michael Schumacher, who is suffering from cranial trauma and brain hemorrhage and in an induced coma following a skiing accident on Sunday morning in the French Alps.
Readers with good memories and a flair for nostalgia will recall the future seven-time World Champion's one and only Le Mans participation, as part of the Mercedes young driver team, sharing a Sauber-Mercedes C11 with Fritz Kreutzpointner and Karl Wendlinger in 1991, just three months before making his famous splash in Formula One with the Jordan team at the Belgian GP.
The No. 31 entry qualified fourth on the grid and ran a solid race, running as high as third and finishing in fifth place, seven laps off the winning Mazda that year.
At only 22 years of age, Schumacher claimed the fastest lap of the race with a time of 3:35.564.
