Audi denies F1 rumors, says they are 'committed' to WEC

Audi has denied rumors that they plan to enter Formula One competition within the next couple years.

Recently, rumors have surfaced stating that an Audi F1 project was in the works and that Fernando Alonso, along with new hire Stefano Domenicali were going to be a part of the venture. This would come at the expense of Audi's WEC and DTM programs.

The German automobile giant released an informal statement on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, saying "Audi‬ in Formula 1? These rumors keep appearing with regularity since years. It’s pure speculation again this time and without any foundation. We are committed to the FIA WEC, DTM and GT racing. In 2015 we will add the Audi Sport TT Cup to our program."

What still seems like a very real possibility is that Fernando Alonso may be forced into a one-year hiatus from Formula One, which could result in a one-off Le Mans bid with the Spaniard driving an Audi LMP1. The deal he's been negotiating with McLaren is currently at a stand-still, apparently due to Alonso's desire for a one-year contract.
