Aston Martin Racing qualifies for 6 Hours of Silverstone

Saturday 16 April, Silverstone: Aston Martin Racing has qualified P6 and P7 in GTE Pro and P6 in GTE Am, ahead of the FIA World Endurance Championship season opener; the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

In a session affected by challenging conditions, the three Aston Martin Racing challengers braved the drenched circuit to complete their first qualifying session of the season.

GTE Pro

In the #97 GTE Pro challenger, Richie Stanaway and Fernando Rees set a combined average lap time of 2m21.626 placing them in P5.

Following the qualifying session, Richie commented “We are still in a learning period with our new tyres and the unique ambient and track temperatures made this session extremely difficult. We ran the majority of the session on the full wet and were only able to use the intermediate tyre towards the end of the session with Fernando. We’re looking forward to a dry race tomorrow where we should be back on the pace”.

In the #95 GTE Pro entry, Marco Sørensen and Nicki Thiim placed P6 with an average of 2m22.252.

Nicki said “It’s a world championship with a lot of top competition. We’re missing a bit of performance today but we know exactly where we are. We’re on a steep learning curve right now but we’re sure that tomorrow will be better”.

GTE Am

In the GTE Am class, the #98 driven by Paul Dalla Lana and Pedro Lamy placed P6.

Reflecting on today’s session, Paul Howarth Team Principal of Aston Martin Racing said, “The unique and unseasonable conditions have certainly contributed to today’s performance. We’re confident that tomorrow’s race will be a very different story. We know what we need to do to improve”.

The 6 Hours of Silverstone begins at 12:00 GMT on Sunday 17 April.
