Sebring International Raceway presents "Spirit of Sebring" award at Concorso Italiano at Monterey Bay, California.
Concorso Italiano announces second event heading to Sebring for 2006.
Monterey, Ca-(August 25, 2005)- Sebring International Raceway presented the "Spirit of Sebring" trophy on August 19th at the prestigious Concorso Italiano in Monterey, California. The annual award honors an outstanding entry that best reflects the spirit of American and European road racing. At the same time, Concorso Italiano organizers announced the event will debut on the east coast at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race in 2006.
The award featured a crystal figurine, created by the world renown artisans at the Lalique crystal company of Paris, France atop a custom made base. The award was presented on stage during the event's major award ceremonies. On hand to present the award were Jack & Leslie Wadsworth of Concorso Italiano, Joe Sabatini of Sebring International Raceway and Mr. David Berndt who funded the award.
The vehicle chosen to receive the award was a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/C owned by Mr. John Siroonian. The car was one of the most heavily campaigned of the 275 GTB/Cs with owners including Luigi Chinetti and Pedro Rodriguez. It's heritage includes racing at Sebring, Nassau, Daytona and other major venues. The car was a perfectly restored example complete with full racing livery. Joe Sabatini of Sebring International Raceway had this to say, "Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of Ferrari's first win at Sebring, when the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio recorded the first of his two consecutive wins at Sebring. This magnificent Ferrari with it's exciting racing heritage made it a natural to receive the award. We look forward to having this car as well as many others at the MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING race in 2006 with the debut of Cocorso Italiano at Sebring"
When asked about Concorso Italiano coming to the east coast, Michelle Delaney of Sebring International Raceway had this to say... "Italian cars have a glorious history at Sebring. Ferrari has won the 12-hour classic 12 times overall, with numerous class victories while Maserati and OSCA have also won overall at Sebring. We look forward to celebrating Fifty years of Ferrari with some very special events and special guests"
Considered to be one of the premier events of the famous Monterey/Pebble Beach weekend, Concorso Italiano is a celebration of Italian style focused on Italian exotic automobiles. It is the largest gathering of Italian vehicles worldwide. The event showcases, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, as well as many others.
In addition to the "Spirit of Sebring" presentation, Sebring International Raceway featured an exciting display at the event. On display was a selection of exotic cars that included a SALEEN S7, SSC Aero, Aston Martin Vanquish S, Ferrari Scaglietti 612 and a custom made "Ferrari Formula One"chopper motorcycle.
Sebring is the home of America's oldest and most prestigious sports car race. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring features many of the teams that compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
