The HAL Registry is underway! I recently purchased a HAL 1940s dirt car (Johnson #8 HAL from the upper mid-west). It was always a HAL engined car, but came to me with a different HAL engine that was part of Lawrence Jewell's 1946 Indy entry (Jewel Hal Special, car #71 with Fred Winnai, driver and W. Taylor, mechanic). After trying to learn more about Harry Hosterman and the HAL engines and performance equipment, I have decided to start the Hal Registry as a way to gather and preserve additional knowledge, parts and histories.

The registry is open to all owners, past owners and others interested in the early years of special built racing engines, especially the racing engines and the DO/SO heads built by Harry Hosterman of Akron, Ohio in the 1930s and '40s.

The initial membership is $20.00 and we'll wait to see if and when we need any annual dues. There will be periodic mailings, a web page, membership roster, parts and technical assistance contacts, etc. If anyone is interested and would like to contact me, please email to or write to HAL Registry, c/o Steve Hammatt, 16593 McLean Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98273 USA. My telephone is 360.428.8882 and the FAX is 360.428.8884. BTW, I'll be out of town for the next 6 days so please be patient<g>.
