Volvo Historic Series a Big Hit

April 8: The inaugural appearance of the Volvo Historic Series at Summit Point Raceway on April 8 proved to be a crowd and competitor pleasing event. The Volvo Historic Series, sponsored by Volvo Cars of North America, brought 22 vintage cars to the Don Beyer Volvo Capitol National.

Overall and VHS4 class win went to Joe Volpe in his Mustangs Plus Mustang. Rich Kushner in his Swedish Motors SAAB Volvo took VHS2 class honors and, after a tough fight with VHS3 winner Joe Boruch's Roadster Factory MGB, took second overall. The HSF Racing Austin Mini of Mark Kearvey placed ninth overall and first in VHS1.

Four track records were established as well. Mark Kearvey in VHS1 with a 1:34.431; Rich Kushner in VHS3 with a time of 1:32.444; Joe Boruch in VHS3 with a 1:32.181; and Joe Volpe in VHS1 with a time of 1:31.316
