Team IntaRacing claim best race result at Winton
Team IntaRacing has recorded its most successful race result with Marcus Marshall finishing the sixth race of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series ninth and in doing so set a new lap record at Winton Motor Raceway.
After starting from 23rd on the grid Marshall elected to hold onto his softer compound tyres until the final stages of today's race and carved his way through the field during the last 20 laps of the race.
Marshall's speed was also apparent on the time sheets with the #77 Falcon setting a new Winton Motor Raceway lap record of 1.22.9813.
Today's result also catapulted Marshall up two positions in the 2009 V8 Supercar Series point score with the Team IntaRacing driver now 26th with 201 points.
After being plagued with bad luck throughout the opening races of the 2009 V8 Supercar Series, Marshall said today's result meant a lot to the newly established team.
"Today's race went pretty well and we had reasonable pace at the start of the race despite being caught up a bit by slower cars," Marshall said, "We stuck with our strategy and it paid off keeping our soft tyres up our sleave until the end of final race of the event."
"At the time when I set the new lap record I knew I was doing some quick laps and the car was really amazing. It truly is a credit to the team and it shows how fast we are learning. We have also now got some good information about the new soft compound tyres.
"I just can't praise enough the guys from Team IntaRacing, Triple Eight Race Engineering and KRE. They are working very hard despite the sponsorship cloud surrounding the team and it is great to reward them all by finishing ninth today," he said.
Team IntaRacing Manager, Keith Evers said it was great for the team to achieve their first goal of finishing inside the top 10.
"The whole team is simply pumped after today's result - we expected to reach the top 10 throughout the season but to do it in just our sixth race together is simply fantastic," Evers said.
"There are a lot of positives for the team to take out of the weekend, our strategy worked well, the car is straight without a mark on it and as a team everybody pulled together for the weekend under difficult circumstances.
"This weekend we also learnt a lot about tyre management and how the new softer compound tyre will re-act in a race environment and we will take this all on board and perfect our tyre management strategy even more for Tasmania," he concluded.
The V8 Supercar Series will travel to Marshall's home state of Tasmania for the seventh and eighth races of the championship which will take place on May 29 -- 31, 2009 at Symmons Plains Raceway.
