Team IntaRacing's Marcus Marshall believes this weekend's fifth and sixth races of the 2009 V8 Supercar Series at Winton Motor Raceway will provide the team with the best opportunity yet to convert pace into a solid haul of points. For the first time ever all teams in the 2009 V8 Supercar Series will have access to the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx Sprint tyres which, with a softer compound, create more grip than the tyres traditionally used in Australia's premier motor racing category. Marshall said that with so many unknowns surrounding the use of the tyres it could provide the newly-created team with the chance to finish inside the top 10 or even higher.
"I'm really excited, I've never been behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar with a different tyre compound on it and after racing other categories internationally which use grippier tyres, I think it is going to be a lot of fun - not only for myself as a driver but also for the fans who should see some great racing," Marshall said.
"It's going to be a bit of a lottery out there [on the track] this weekend. I think it is a very good opportunity for us to grab a great result as everybody adapts to the new tyres which are expected to wear a lot quicker than what we usually use."
Team IntaRacing Manager, Keith Evers said this weekend the team will also receive an additional allocation of the softer compound tyres which have to be used in practice. These tyres will carry a distinctive pink wall.
"The extra set of tyres must be used during practice and they will provide us with the chance to see what the tyres do and what pressures they should be run at. It will make good racing for the fans and after the event we will have a better idea of what to expect at the other events which will use the same tyres throughout the year," Evers said.
"This weekend everybody will be on an even playing ground having never used the tyres in a race situation before and I think this is a huge positive for our team."
Marshall advised that negoitaitons are continuing with a number of potential sponsors for the team and the #77 Falcon will run a Team IntaRacing livery this weekend.
Marshall and Team IntaRacing will next take to the track at 12.25pm on Friday May 1, 2009 for the first of three practice sessions for the event with qualifying and the weekend's opening race to take place the following day.
