RICCIARDELLO SCORES SECOND TOP 20 FINISH FOR 2010
Stratco Racing driver Tony Ricciardello has posted his second top 20 finish for the season in the second race of Event 6 in the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria today.
Ricciardello, in his first full season of V8 Supercar competition, claimed a 20th place finish in today's 64-lap race aboard his #16 Stratco Holden Commodore, at one stage moving into the top half of the field.
Jason Bargwanna's race ended when the #11 Rock Holden Commodore suffered from a tailshaft failure mid-race, sending Bargwanna into the gravel trap at Turn 3.
Bargwanna sits 22nd in the championship standings after 12 of 26 races, with Ricciardello in 26th place.
Kelly Racing earned its first pole position today when Rick Kelly topped qualifying this morning in his #15 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore. He finished today's race in fourth and sits seventh in the series standings.
James Courtney won today's final race for the weekend at Winton Motor Raceway ahead of Craig Lowndes and Lee Holdsworth.
The seventh event of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be held at Hidden Valley Raceway when the Skycity Triple Crown is staged in Darwin, Northern Territory on June 18-20.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD
TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore:
"We made some good time up on that first Safety Car and had good pace," said Tony Ricciardello.
"With the way our pace and our strategy worked out we were right up there in the top 15 but the last Safety Car saw our tyres drop a lot of temperature.
"We lost the advantage that we had over a lot of the cars around us and dropped some spots.
"It was a matter of survival towards the end and the Stratco Commodore did survive another race, despite a bit of banging.
"The Kelly Racing boys did a great job again today and I'm looking forward to heading to Darwin."
JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"Unfortunately the tailshaft has broken going up into Turn 3," said Jason Bargwanna.
"It broke as I was going into the corner so trying to keep it on the track was near impossible and I've ended up in the sand trap.
"It's a really disappointing way to end the race but looking at the lap times and the position we were headed for, probably in the top 10, and we set the third fastest lap of the race.
"So we will take those positives and keep working at it and try to turn that into results."
