PERKINS SCORES 19TH AND SAVES SOFT TYRES FOR SUNDAY

Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins has achieved a solid finish in the first race at Event 3 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria today.

Crucially for Perkins, his 19th place finish came on two sets of the harder Dunlop tyres, one of the few drivers to save his faster soft compound tyres for tomorrow's 67-lap race.

Perkins started from 18th in the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore, the second consecutive event that he has advanced to the second segment of qualifying.

Perkins drove a smart race, bringing his car home for another strong points-scoring finish after pitting on lap nine for tyres and fuel.

Craig Lowndes won today's fifth race of the championship at Winton, ahead of Jamie Whincup and Steven Richards.

WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...

Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:

"We managed to string another top 20 run together but the key thing I suppose is that we've got that set of option tyres up our sleeve for tomorrow," said Perkins.

"There was a lot going on out there. Because we were running on the harder tyre for the whole race, I wanted to run my own race in the Dodo Commodore and get it home with a solid finish.

"We achieved that and scored some points for the championship, but I'm really excited about tomorrow."
