PERKINS SAYS WINTON STRATEGY WILL BE CASE OF THE UNKNOWN
Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins says that this weekend's third event for the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway in rural Victoria will be a case of the unknown.
With the debut of a new soft-compound Dunlop 'option' tyre, all teams will have to make crucial strategy decisions as to when they fit they fit their solitary race set of the new tyres during this weekend's two races.
As Winton sees the debut of the tyre, teams will all enter this weekend's competition with their own ideas and interpretations of the new regulations.
Perkins says that while subsequent events may see most teams adopting the same strategy, this weekend's action will see a variety of approaches as drivers and engineers adopt their own plans.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:
"Winton is our team's test track and is a track where I've had some success in the past so I'm really am looking forward to getting the Dodo Commodore out there and having a good go," said Perkins.
"It's going to be a good weekend, despite the cold weather, and I'm looking to turn the bad luck we've had around and come away with a good clean weekend and get two good finishes.
"It is always interesting to have a bit of an unknown thrown in the mix to keep the racing interesting.
"It's going to be interesting to see when guys use their soft tyres and when they don't. I think for the first round it's going to be a case of 'suck it and see' as they say and we'll just use our own strategy and see what happens.
"Once the guys get it all sorted and we see the fastest way of doing things, it will all fall into place and most people will do the same thing for the rest of the races.
"So this will be the 'pioneer' event and we might just be the ones leading the way with the strategy. We'll have to wait and see."
