Whincup takes double pole for Sunday races at Perth

V8 Supercars Australia Championship

Whincup Clean Sweeps Qualifying

NEW championship leader Jamie Whincup has taken pole position for Races 8 and 9 of the V8 Supercar Championship at Barbagallo Raceway.

The TeamVodafone driver topped both separate 15-minute qualifying sessions for Races 8 and 9.

Whincup topped the first hard tyre session with a 56.32s lap, beating yesterday's race winner Mark Winterbottom by just 0.002s.

FPR's Will Davison and IRWIN Racing's Lee Holdsworth will start Race 8 on the second row, ahead of Jason Bright and David Reynolds.

In Race 9 Qualifying it was his Whincup's teammate Craig Lowndes who looked to have pole position sewn up until Taz Douglas brought out a red flag with just over a minute on the clock.

Whincup then produced an amazing one-lap dash to snatch pole position after the chequered flag had fallen.

It's an all-TeamVodafone front row for Race 9, followed by FPR's Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom.

Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall qualified in 5th - his best qualifying result of the season so far- but has been excluded for a parc ferme infringement and will start from the rear of the grid.
