V8 Supercar teams will be given an extra set of hard compound Dunlop Tyres for Friday practice at this weekend’s Winton SuperSprint.
Tyres have been a hot topic so far this season, with reduced allocations for practice frustrating drivers by forcing them to to try and set cars up on used rubber.
The pleas for more practice rubber have finally been met by V8 Supercars, with the category today announcing that this Friday the teams will be given one extra brand new set per car.
The ‘practice’ tyres will be the harder compound, and the extra set will have to be given back to Dunlop on Friday evening.
The initial allocation for Winton was 12 new hard tyres and four soft.
For now, the Friday tyre set is just for Winton, but it is expected that it will be the case for all of the remaining sprint rounds this year.
V8 Supercars has also failed to rule out a change to the oft-maligned SuperSprint format, which currently consists of two 60-kilometre races on Saturday and a 120-kilometre race on Sunday. The commission are set to discuss changes to the format later this week.
