Whincup consolidates more points ahead of Sydney Showdown
Jamie Whincup fought tooth and nail in Sunday’s final 65-lap race, the current championship leader finishing first and widening the point’s margin further between himself and teammate Craig Lowndes who crossed the line fourth.
The TeamVodafone car #88 pilot started the day on top, securing pole position for the 200km race and tying up the Armor All Pole Position award for the fourth year in a row.
Lowndes had better luck in today’s qualifying session, the Car #888 driver fourth fastest, cementing a start from the second row off the grid.
Making a bold move off the line Whincup secured the lead on the opening lap and held a comfortable gap for the duration of the race.
The win marked the 50th race win for Whincup with his Engineer Mark Dutton.
On the other side of the TeamVodafone garage, Lowndes battled to gain positions and resorted to an early pitstop strategy to move him in front of the two ford drivers ahead.
Proving to be the right strategy, Lowndes moved into third but lost a spot coming out of the pits after his final pitstop.
Whincup currently sits 188 points ahead of teammate Lowndes in the V8 Supercar Championship Standings.
TeamVodafone will head back to Triple Eight Race Engineering's Banyo headquarters to prepare for the Grand Finale of the V8 Supercars Championship Series, the Sydney 500 which kicks off from December 2 - 4.
