MacDONALD TAKES SURPRISE V8 BRutes WIN IN ADELAIDE
HOLDEN driver Gary MacDonald grabbed a surprise win in the V8 BRutes race in Adelaide today after race-long leader Damien White ran off the track within sight of the chequered flag.
MacDonald had tried repeatedly to pass White=B9s Falcon during the five-lap event, but said he had virtually given up hope of winning as the pair raced toward the finish.
But as White approached the last corner, a brake lock-up sent him into a wild spin.
With no hope of repeating his win of yesterday, White recovered to claim seventh place, while MacDonald celebrated victory.
"I'm stoked to win. I made some big moves on Damien, but in the end I didn't want to risk not taking the car home in one piece," MacDonald said.
The V8 BRutes, featuring new Ford Falcon XR8 and Holden Commodore SS V8-powered utilities of equal performance, were making their first-ever appearance in Adelaide.
MacDonald said: "The Adelaide crowd obviously loved these new cars. I could actually hear people cheering as we raced past them - it was amazing."
Following this weekend's inaugural races, the V8 BRutes will start a six-round championship at Wakefield Park, NSW, on 4-6 May. The series will be staged by PROCAR Australia. <pre> RESULTS, Race 3 (5 laps): 1. Gary MacDonald (Holden Commodore SS) 2. Gary Young (FordFalcon XR8) 3. Charlie Kovacs (HoldenCommodore SS) 4.
