Macca's Back for Bathurst Attack
Former V8 Ute stalwart Gary "Macca" MacDonald will return to the grid at the infamous Mount Panorama track for Round 6 of the 2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series -- protected by Armor All, 10 -- 12 October.
MacDonald, who hasn't been in a Ute since 2008, will step in for former teammate Yanis Derums who will be sitting out the round.
"Initially Yanis and I were going to share the rounds throughout the year but with work commitments it hasn't allowed me to. This is the first round that I can make it to and it's worked out that it's my favourite track," said MacDonald.
Derums is happy for MacDonald to drive his car at the Bathurst round.
"I don't particularly like that track and Gary loves it so I told him he can have the drive," said Derums.
MacDonald has been in and out of the Series over the past seven years but was one of the original nine that began the Series in 2001. He has also raced at the mountain in the V8 Supercar Development Series in 2004 and 2005 and a number of times in the Bathurst 12 Hour Enduro Event.
"I haven't done any driving this year and just had to renew my license but I'm really familiar with the track and feel confident I'll do well," said MacDonald.
MacDonald came in sixth at the same event in 2008 with a third placing in Race 1 and has a positive outlook coming into the Round.
"Every time I've raced there (Bathurst) I've been on the first two rows of the grid and I'm really looking forward to it" said MacDonald.
Two of the V8 Ute races will be televised live on Network Seven. Race 2 on Saturday, 11th October and Race 2 on Sunday, 12th October prior to the start of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
