CONTACT AT START DELAYS PERKINS IN TOWNSVILLE
Dodo Racing Team driver Jack Perkins has suffered from contact at the start of the second race of the Dunlop Townsville 400 in north Queensland today, denying him the chance to show his true potential.
Perkins was involved in contact with Michael Patrizi on the run down to the tight Turn 2 at the start of the 72-lap race.
The clash damaged the front-right steering arm on the #11 Dodo Holden Commodore, with Perkins forced into the pits to replace the component.
The Dodo Racing Team crew did an outstanding job to affect the repairs and have Perkins rejoin in six laps, but by then any chance of a strong result had evaporated.
Perkins showed good pace this weekend but was unable to convert that into the results he deserved, but will look to bounce back at the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge in Melbourne on July 31 to August 2.
James Courtney won today's race at the Dunlop Townsville 400 ahead of Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 Dodo Holden Commodore:
On the race ...
"Unfortunately we got into contact with the #333 car at Turn 2 at the start and it damaged our steering straight away," said Perkins.
"The Dodo Racing Team guys had to replace the steering arm. They did a good job and we only lost six laps or so but unfortunately the day was done pretty early and it that's disappointing.
"We had a solid car yesterday and we were looking to get a good solid finish today.
"Unfortunately it wasn't to be but we'll just look forward to Sandown now."
On the event ...
"The organisers have done a great job here, it's just disappointing when you don't get a great result," said Perkins.
"It will be great to come back here next year. It's great already, but I'm sure they will improve it two-fold and the whole Dodo team is just looking forward to the next event here."
