In the dying minutes of the session, it was Jamie Whincup who blitzed the field with a 2m07.500s lap; almost half a second clear of teammate Craig Lowndes in second.

Lowndes was similarly half a second faster than third-placed Will Davison, while VIP Petfoods Steve Owen made a last lap charge into fourth.

James Courtney was the highest-placed of the Walkinshaw Racing trio in 5th, ahead of Fabian Coulthard and Michael Caruso.

FPR's Mark Winterbottom, Shane van Gisbergen (SP Tools) and defending Bathurst champ Garth Tander rounded out the top ten.

The session was halted by two red flag periods, the first for Tony D'Alberto after suffering tyre damage at the top of the mountain, and Tim Slade, who stopped at the final turn.

BigPond Sport will stream qualifying live on from 2.45pm.

Qualifying will also be broadcast as part of Channel Seven's Bathurst 1000 telecast from 1.00pm- 4.00pm AEST. Check your local guides for details.
