TeamVodafone have been recognised for their outstanding sporting achievements with a nomination in the Team Performance of the Year category for the fourth annual Sports Performer Awards.

The awards, which are presented by the Sydney Morning Herald, in conjunction with Colonial First State, aim to be one of the most prestigious prizes in Australian sport.

2010 has been a year highlighted with success for the team who have secured the most team wins in the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Their recent win at Phillip Island and 1-2 victory at Bathurst has been a high point for the side who are the only motorsport team to have been listed in this year's Sports Performer Awards.

The nomination marks TeamVodafone's third consecutive nomination for the award where the winner will receive $50,000 courtesy of Colonial First State.

Defending V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup said it was an honour to be recognised for their efforts.

"Because were so involved in motorsport, it's hard for us to judge our success in relation to Australian sport as a whole," Whincup said.

"We feel like weve been doing a great job in the championship and its awesome that weve been recognised for that.

"We've been nominated for the award three times now but havent yet taken out the title for the best team. C'mon guys, vote for us and make this year our third time lucky!" he added.

TeamVodafone will be up against five teams, including the Australian Matildas (soccer), Collingwood Magpies (AFL), Australian Kookaburras (Hockey), Queensland State of Origin (NRL) and St George Illawarra (NRL).

The awards will consist of five categories and the winners will be announced at a special function to be held in Melbourne at Crown Casino on November 30, 2010.
