Mark Winterbottom topped his second practice session of the weekend at Symmons Plains.
The reigning champion made the best of the 15-minute pre-qualifying practice session, going fastest in the closing seconds with a 51.097s – 0.13s clear of the field, an eternity on the tight Symmons Plains circuit.
Winterbottom’s time demoted Scott McLaughlin, who had been top with three minutes to run, back to P2, with Fabian Coulthard making it two Kiwis in the Top 3.
Jason Bright was consistently quick throughout the session, first going fastest with eight minutes to go, before improving to go P1 again with just over three minutes to go. He was ultimately shuffled back to fifth, ahead of Lee Holdsworth.
Craig Lowndes, who led the early running and had been squabbling with Bright over P1 before the late flurry of laps, was sixth fastest. Cam Waters, meanwhile, kept his impressive first weekend in a V8 at the Tasmanian circuit going with P7 ahead of Garth Tander and Chaz Mostert.
