A moderate start for TeamVodafone in Tasmania
Championship contenders TeamVodafone are looking forward to getting out on green tyres for tomorrows qualifying legs after less than ideal practice tyres saw both drivers finish today's session in the top half of the field, but outside the top five.
Whilst both cars were reasonably placed, the results were not indicative of either car's true potential as the team was forced to choose from two depleted tyre banks.
Craig Lowndes faired the best of the duo, recording the eighth quickest time of .52.3231 while Jamie Whincup struggled for grip on his second set of practice tyres and finished the session in 14th position.
Confident his car will be a top five contender in tomorrows qualifying Lowndes said was happy with the cars balance by the end of the session.
"The car was quite reasonable when I first went out and we worked on car balance throughout the session." said Lowndes.
"We found a good balance before we went to our P2's and we went to what we believe was a good qualifying package but just didn't get the time gain that we hoped."
"Despite this I was still happy with the cars balance and I could position it anywhere on the track. We have a lot of useful data to go through tonight."
"I am very confident that on new tyres we will get a lot more out of the car," Lowndes added.
After sitting within the top five for most of the session Whincup was also confident of moving further up the order in tomorrows qualifying session.
"Unfortunately our tyre bank is a bit bare," said Whincup
"We had low grip but consistent P1 tyres then we rolled the dice and went with our P2's to try and give us some more grip for a couple of laps, but we actually ended up with less grip."
"I am looking forward to tomorrows' race and trying to get some points back," Whincup concluded.
Tomorrows V8 Supercar action will see TeamVodafone qualify at 11.30am (EST) with Race 1 to commence at 3.15pm (EST).
