MCNALLY INSPIRED BY RINGSIDE VIEW OF GREEN FIGHT WIN
Hi-Tec Oils Racing driver Mark McNally has had the perfect preparation to this weekend's Sydney Telstra 500, sitting ringside at the Danny Green v Roy Jones Jr bout in Homebush last night.
The West Aussie shares a mutual sponsor with Green, who also hails from WA, in specialist mining contractors NRW.
McNally was able to witness one of the most sensational upsets in Australian boxing history from the front row.
The V8 Supercar rookie has received advise and mentoring from Green over the years as he has risen through the ranks.
McNally says that witnessing Green's superb efforts last night at the Acer Arena, which lies within the circuit for this weekend's race, is the perfect motivator ahead of this weekend's two 250-kilometre races.
WHAT MARK HAD TO SAY ...
Mark McNally - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:
QUESTION: Last night must have been quite an experience, sitting ringside at the Danny Green fight. You have dealt with Danny many times through your mutual sponsor, NRW, but even though you know Danny to some extent is it still inspiring to see a fellow sportsman put in such an outstanding performance?
"The guys at NRW have been fantastic supporters of both myself and Danny (Green) for a number of years," said Mark McNally.
"They've introduced me to him and I've met with him a few times and I cannot speak highly enough of him.
"He's such a down to earth, humble bloke who has taken the time to sit with me and talk about his life experiences, what it's taken for him to get to the top, the set backs, the highs and the lows.
"So to be ringside last night was unbelievable. I had a fair bit of confidence but obviously Roy Jones Jr is one of the best boxers that the world has even seen, but you could tell that Danny at that weight class has just awesome power.
"So I wasn't surpised that he knocked him out, I was just surprised at how quick it was.
"It was an awesome experience to just say that you were there and to be able to celebrate and to be there with the whole NRW crew was great."
QUESTION: The Sydney Telstra 500 will be a gruelling event for the drivers with two 250km races. Boxing can be incredibly gruelling as well but as we saw last night it can also be over very quickly.
"I'm hoping that my races are not over as quickly as Danny's fight. To have it over in two minutes was different.
"I'll be drawing on a bit of inspiration from last night because two 250km races around a new street circuit in this sort of heat is going to be pretty gruelling so hopefully all the training I've been doing is going to pay off."
